How does Sea Pollution affects our Shipping ?

How does  Sea Pollution  affects our Shipping?
''Sea Pollution'' refers contamination of sea water by the  decomposition  of wastes in the form of Chemicals , Oil , Plastics , E - Waste , Seawage , Drainage etc.
Then the questions rises who is responsible ?

Now our Question is How does it affects our Shipping

Coming to the answer of this question lets assume a situation , Initially major source of coolant was  Sea Water but because of Polluted sea water scale formation  and corrosion started taking place in the pipelines, filters , coolers etc, which result in clogging of filters and failure of the system onboard the ship.
To troubleshoot this problem ,Central cooling system is used in which we avoid direct cooling through sea water instead fresh water is circulated throughout the ship machineries and is getting cooled by sea water . Hence length of pipelines carrying sea water is reduced and chances of getting failure can be avoided.

Do you think  only this could be a single  problems our ships encounter through? Answer is Big no .
The whole giant ship is floating over it and almost 80 per cent of ships hull is in contact with water . So we cannot escape everywhere . And hence this is our major concern .

Marpol 73/78 , international convention for preventing Marine Pollution at sea is only regulating the activities of ships which is only 10 per cent of all the pollution.

Difference between Attemperator and De-superheater

Attemperator are fitted in order to keep the steam temperature in the final stages of the superheater within certain desired limits . This is done for two main reasons . 1. The most important is the protection of the superheater tube material from the effects of overheating. *Mild steel superheater tubes tubes should not be subjected to steam temperatures in excess of 455℃. 2. The formation of bonded deposits on superheater tubes can be reduced if steam and gas streams within certain temperature ranges are prevented from coming into contact of each other. De-Superheater is used to reduce the temperature of a quantity of superheated steam and make it suitable for used in auxiliary services requires low temperature or saturated steam . *The reason for doing this way rather than by taking the saturated steam direct from steam drum , is to protect the superheater , these must be protected against overheating under all conditions of load by circulating steam through them . *Al...

Cross and loop scavenging Disadvantage

Cross scavenging Disadvantage 1. It requires longer  piston skirt to prevent exhaust gas and air leaks from the ports when piston is at TDC . Loop scavenging Disadvantage 1. Both exhaust port and scavenge port are at the adjacent side of the liner which causes temperature differential problem for the liner material . Hence , we are using mostly the uniflow scavenging which is having very lesser mixing and better scavenging efficiency. Source : DA Taylor
