Types of circuit fault

There are mainly three types of electrical faults .
1. Earth fault
2. Short circuit fault
3. Open circuit fault

1. Earth fault
It happens due to breaking of insulation of wire and conductor of wire comes in contact with ships hull or in  the contact of body /enclosure . B is point marked as shown in figure.

2. Short circuit fault
When insulation breaks at two points of same wire or two different wire then very high short circuit current flow through the circuit and it  damages the electrical loads .
C is point marked as shown in figure.

3. Open circuit fault
When conductor of wire breaks due to mechanical damages or loose connection .
A is point marked as shown in figure.

Difference between Attemperator and De-superheater

Attemperator are fitted in order to keep the steam temperature in the final stages of the superheater within certain desired limits . This is done for two main reasons . 1. The most important is the protection of the superheater tube material from the effects of overheating. *Mild steel superheater tubes tubes should not be subjected to steam temperatures in excess of 455℃. 2. The formation of bonded deposits on superheater tubes can be reduced if steam and gas streams within certain temperature ranges are prevented from coming into contact of each other. De-Superheater is used to reduce the temperature of a quantity of superheated steam and make it suitable for used in auxiliary services requires low temperature or saturated steam . *The reason for doing this way rather than by taking the saturated steam direct from steam drum , is to protect the superheater , these must be protected against overheating under all conditions of load by circulating steam through them . *Al...

Cross and loop scavenging Disadvantage

Cross scavenging Disadvantage 1. It requires longer  piston skirt to prevent exhaust gas and air leaks from the ports when piston is at TDC . Loop scavenging Disadvantage 1. Both exhaust port and scavenge port are at the adjacent side of the liner which causes temperature differential problem for the liner material . Hence , we are using mostly the uniflow scavenging which is having very lesser mixing and better scavenging efficiency. Source : DA Taylor
