One unit Exhaust temperature Rise

Causes for scavenge fire

1. Blow past due to worn or damaged piston ring . 2. Stuffing box leaks . 3. Excessive cylinder lubrication. 4. Inadequate scavenge space draining . 5. Poor combustion, injector condition, fuel timing or worn liners . Source : Deven Aranha

Causes for high bearing temperature

1. Low supply pressure to the lube oil or low sump level in the tank . 2. Air lock in the lube oil or lubricating grooves obstructed. 3. Higher bearing clearances , excessive wear or improper tightening . 4. Pipelines defects or valve is shutdown . 5. Lube oil contains water or metal impurities.

Crankcase inspection check

1. Check for the foreign particles and color of the lube oil . 2. Check the walls of the crankcase for carbon deposits and leaking from diaphragm . 3. Check the bearing clearances and worn out white metal near it. 4. Check the web alignment marks and crankpin . 5. Crankcase relief door . 6. Any discolorisation signifying hotspot .

Engine fails to start on air

1. Insufficient air in the air bottle. check the pressure gauge . 2. Sticking air starting valve . 3. Turning gear interlock switch faulty . 4. Air distributor is faulty . 5. Exhaust valve is opened due to less air spring spring pressure. 6. Worn piston ring which leaks the air . 7. Automatic starting valve is faulty . 8. Bursting disc diaphragm is leaky . 9. Leakage in the pipeline due to corrosion . 10. Rack position is in manual mode . Change it through governor to automatic mode . 11. Booster pump is not building up pressure to the fuel pump. 

Watch keeping Round ( From Tunnel to funnel )

During Round 1. Check the funnel smoke and judge it as given below   a. If it is whitish means air is more than required and more water content in the fuel . b. If it is blackish means combustion is not proper,  more fuel is present than required . c. If it is transparent greyish means combustion is taking place properly .        Note. One should must identify the funnel of boiler , auxiliary engine and main engine . 2. Check the economiser platform for feed water , steam and smoke . 3. Check steering platform for hydraulic oil level . 4. Check the boiler  for water level if blow through is required for correct water level it should be done . 5. Check the boiler for flame through the sight glass . 6. Check the positions of portable fire extinguishers. 7. Check the level of crankcase lube oil sump . 8. Oil tanker safety

Personnel Tanker safety . *Personnel 1. Personnel should not carry their own torch . It is should be approved type intrinsic safe torch . 2. Smoking should be done at designated places only . 3. Mobile phone , camera etc . Should not be brought to the deck .

Ozone depletion cause

When refrigerant like cfc's, R11, R12,R22 etc leaks to the atmosphere it rises and comes in contact with ultra violet rays and gets broken into chlorine atom . When chlorine atom attacks ozone layer it forms chlorine monoxide . And the remaining single oxygen atom attacks the chlorine monoxide to form oxygen molecule .
