TENSILE STRENGTH

TENSILE STRENGTH It is the resistance of the material to breaking under tension . TENSION An  apply force to an object which tends to stretch it . FORCE A force is an interaction in a body which causes the puss and pull to the body in an certain direction. according to Newton second law of motion "Rate of change of momentum is directly propertional to the force applied on the body ." Mathematically formulated as F=ma

BOILER WATER TEST

BOILER WATER TEST  PURPOSE OF BOILER WATER TEST  To maintain  boiler is in good condition and prevent it from any damages due to acidic corrosion , scale formation etc. To control the chemical feed to the boiler i.e the quantity of chemicals to be added . WHAT ARE ALL THE TEST TO BE CARRIED OUT  1. Alkalinity Test 2. Chloride Test 3. Phosphate Test 4. pH test 5. Conductive test How sampling is done and which is the sampling point ? Sampling should be done from the same point where it was taken previous . In general consideration, sampling point is SALINOMETER cock . Always ensure that air should not be trapped inside the sampling bottle because it will affect the tets result , to do this overflow the bottle . WHAT IS ALKALINITY TEST ? AND HOW IT IS CALCULATED ?  Alkalinity test is carried out to find out the presence and quantity of calcium carbonates in boiler feed water . There are two tests which  we carried out for alkalinity. 1. P...

VARIOUS MOMENTS OF A FORCE

VARIOUS MOMENTS OF A FORCE ARE- 1. BENDING MOMENT 2.TORSIONAL/TWISTING MOMENT What is moment of a force? Moment of a force is the  measure of tendency of body to rotates about some axis or point . The line of action of force should not pass through the centroid of the body or cancel each other . it can be calculated as the product of force and perpendicular distance from the line of action of force and the point. M= f x d Bending Moment  Turning effect of a force which tends to bend the member acts perpendicular to the axis of the body . Due to the resultant force it tends to bend . Torsional/ Twisting Moment It is the resultant of force produces twisting of the body resulting from shear stress of the body .

Safety valve vs Relief valve

Relief valve It opens gradually and then closes. Safety valve It opens fully at the set pressure . Relief valve It takes more time to release the gases bcz it gradually opens .hence less reliable wrt safety. Eg. boiler has safety valve not the relief valve. Safety valve It takes less time to release the gases .
