Crankshaft types

CRANKSHAFT TYPES : Crankshaft can be of four types :- a. Fully built crankshaft:- Various parts  of this crankshaft is shrink fitted . b. Semi-built crankshaft:- Various parts such as crank throw and pin are of single piece case. c. Welded crankshaft:- webs , crankpin and half journals are welded together. d. Flanged coupling crankshaft:- these are of two pieces and joined together by flanged coupling . Source : scribd.com

Indicator card

What is indicator card ? And why it is taken . It is the diagram which is pressure between the relative position of piston in the cylinder i.e volume . It is  taken to 1. Calculate the indicated power of an engine. 2. Examine the scavenging and exhaust process. 3. To find out the peak pressure and compression pressure . 4. To examine the combustion process inside the cylinder .

Mechanical Governor vs Electrical Governor

Mechanical Governor 1. It uses flyweight to determine the engine speed . Electrical Governor 1. It uses magnetic pick - up coil to determine the engine speed . Mechanical Governor 2. Vertical spindle is connected through flyweight which transmits the actuating signal to hydraulic unit to operate the fuel control lever . Electrical Governor 2. It uses rectified dc voltage signal to actuate the hydraulic unit to operate the fuel control lever .

Cross and loop scavenging Disadvantage

Cross scavenging Disadvantage 1. It requires longer  piston skirt to prevent exhaust gas and air leaks from the ports when piston is at TDC . Loop scavenging Disadvantage 1. Both exhaust port and scavenge port are at the adjacent side of the liner which causes temperature differential problem for the liner material . Hence , we are using mostly the uniflow scavenging which is having very lesser mixing and better scavenging efficiency. Source : DA Taylor
